Fate of floating plastic debris released along the coasts in a global ocean model

چکیده

Marine plastic pollution is a global issue, from the shores to open ocean. Understanding pathway and fate of debris fundamental manage reduce pollution. Here, floating discharged along coasts studied by comparing two sources, one based on river discharges other mismanaged waste coastal populations, using Lagrangian numerical analysis in ocean circulation model. About 1/3 particles end up 2/3 beaches. The input scenario largely influences accumulation toward main subtropical convergence zones, with South Pacific North Atlantic being mostly fed population inputs. number beached that several areas. Beaching occurs mainly locally, although significant travel long distances, allowing for connectivity.

A global inventory of small floating plastic debris

Microplastic debris floating at the ocean surface can harmmarine life. Understanding the severity of this harm requires knowledge of plastic abundance and distributions. Dozens of expeditions measuringmicroplastics have been carried out since the 1970s, but they have primarily focused on the NorthAtlantic andNorth Pacific accumulation zones, withmuch sparser coverage elsewhere. Here, we use the ...

Plastic debris in the open ocean.

There is a rising concern regarding the accumulation of floating plastic debris in the open ocean. However, the magnitude and the fate of this pollution are still open questions. Using data from the Malaspina 2010 circumnavigation, regional surveys, and previously published reports, we show a worldwide distribution of plastic on the surface of the open ocean, mostly accumulating in the converge...

Accumulation and fragmentation of plastic debris in global environments.

One of the most ubiquitous and long-lasting recent changes to the surface of our planet is the accumulation and fragmentation of plastics. Within just a few decades since mass production of plastic products commenced in the 1950s, plastic debris has accumulated in terrestrial environments, in the open ocean, on shorelines of even the most remote islands and in the deep sea. Annual clean-up oper...

investigating the feasibility of a proposed model for geometric design of deployable arch structures

deployable scissor type structures are composed of the so-called scissor-like elements (sles), which are connected to each other at an intermediate point through a pivotal connection and allow them to be folded into a compact bundle for storage or transport. several sles are connected to each other in order to form units with regular polygonal plan views. the sides and radii of the polygons are...
